A short note of joy:
Today I started practicing with a yumi (bow)! It is a lot harder than I'd expected, even though I knew it would be tough. Drawing the bow is a lot harder, and it's heavier. Plus that my bow is really tall - over 2 meters tall! - so I need some practice to be able to hold it up straight without wavering. And that's before I start to draw it. Phew! Still, I've learned to put on my glove, my...um... "breast protection piece of leather"?...and I'm happy!
Also, I don't have to buy my own arrows. Some that were bought by a student who quit before using them fit me perfectly. They're shiny and red and really short and cute!
In (even shorter) short:
Me <3's kyudo.
Location: Japan!
Mood: Happy and tired
Practicing: Kyudo!

Congratulations! Do you operate with pounds (draw weight) on the japanese bows? If yes, then how many pounds is yours? It'll get a lot harder to hold the bow still when you start drawing and anchoring the arrow! Oh, and how many inches long are those arrows of yours?
Hum... I'm not sure about my arrows. The draw weight on our bows are in kilos, so mine equals 12 kilos. Which is more than enough for me at the moment! XD
Today we practiced out in the freezing cold again (10 or so °C, wind and no place to hide!) for about an hour or so, a bit more. Because this insanely large bow is so heavy to hold and draw yet, I'm apparently leaning my body the same way as I pull the string. -.-; And the shoulder of the arm holding the bow is having a hard time relaxing. Obviously. Oh, well. Practice makes perfect, and this is only my second try! It's all the challenges that makes it fun, right? ;) I just wish we could practice inside more often, like you do, so at least the wind wouldn't blow so bad... I'm telling you, I was shivering! Bad! XC That's the only reason I don't just look forward to training these days. It's so. Darn. COLD. Today I was jumping up and down doing "floker" and yelling "Bikkjekaldt! Bikkjekaldt!" XD
Let's see. My bow is 30# (pounds), your 12 kg will make about.. 26,4#. Let's just say 26# then. Oh shanks. Imagine how heavy it will be to draw mine when you try it, Heren! But then it'll be a lot easier too, because our stances and drawing methods differ from yours :3
I feel so bad for you having to stand out in the cold. But 10°C really isn't that cold to me. Heeheh. I agree it's a lot better inside. No annoying wind. But then it's dark and moody :( I love light far too much.
Haha. Bikkjekaldt. Learn them some Norwegian terms, will you? :D
Ugh. TEACH. I meant TEACH!
Haha! I do that too. More often now. I wonder why... :P
Oh no, 10°C isn't that cold... but when it's humid it feels a lot worse! Also, I'm walking home in a skirt every day. (I used to do kyudo in the same skirt - but now I've finally started bringing my gym clothes along, so at least I have pants...) And I have loafers with thin socks in them. My feet get so cold they hurt. -.- They always ask me "but it's colder in Norway, right?" ...yeah... but in Norway we wear clothes suited for cold weather to school! o(>.<)o (Also, our schools use heating and don't leave the windows in the hall wide open. Our homes have heating too.)
Brrr! I'm constantly cold these days. Yesterday I slept wearing a long-sleeved sweater, big t-shirt, fleece jacket, pants, socks and a Santa Claus hat (because it's warm). And I had covers and a thick blanket!
Coming from Norway, I never expected this...
Er ikke helt oppdatert, befinner du deg i Japan for øyeblikket, er det så? Lager du buer? SOm i pil og bue? I så fall virker det meget interessant, hehe :P
